SPIRITUAL DIRECTION

Hi. My name is Bud Winderweedle, and I am a Spiritual Director and pastor here at Ekklesia. I was trained in the Sustainable Faith School of Spiritual Direction and completed the program in May of 2023. During that time I was able to learn new skills for compassionate listening as well as dig deeper into my own relationship with God. What I have realized about God and about myself along the way helps me to help others on their journey.

What Is Spiritual Direction?

Spiritual direction is, as Margaret Guenther says, “recognizing God’s amazing work in us and among us in the ordinariness of human existence.”

It is for anyone who wants to go deeper in their relationship with God and who wants a companion on the journey.  And as a Spiritual Director, I will work to cultivate a safe and open space where we can discern together what God has been and is doing in the your life, helping you to realize the ever-present Love running through all of your experiences.

What Does a Session Look Like?

The approach to a direction session can vary depending upon the person, the time of day, or many other factors. Yet the one constant is our paying attention to what God is doing in your life (the directee). 

I like to set aside 60 minutes for a session which typically includes some time to settle in at the beginning as well as a few minutes at the end to wrap up. You can expect about 45 minutes of active listening and prayer in the middle. 

During this time, there are many types of movements to which we will pay attention. How has God been present with you? What has God been up to in your life? What invitations may be extended your way? What are your desires, your longings? How do you experience God in your everyday life? These are all possible areas for wondering as we pray and listen together.

The cost for a session varies depending upon your economic needs:  $40-75. You decide what fits your budget. I do typically have scholarships available. So please let me know if the sliding scale does not work for you.
